About the Author
Karen S. Agee, Ph.D., is Reading and Learning Coordinator Emerita of the University of Northern Iowa. She served the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) as secretary, president, and executive assistant to the Board. Karen currently represents CRLA on the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations (CLADEA) and on the Board of Directors of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of College Reading and Learning. She has received CRLA's Robert Griffin Award for Long and Outstanding Service and Special Recognition Award, UNI's Exemplary Service Award, and the Iowa Board of Regents' Award for Staff Excellence. Karen previously collaborated with Russ Hodges on the program management chapter in Handbook of College Reading and Study Strategy Research (2nd ed., edited by Rona F. Flippo and David C. Caverly, 2008, Routledge).

Russ Hodges, Ed.D., is an associate professor in the College of Education at Texas State University where he co-created and now teaches graduate courses in the new doctoral and master's program in developmental education. Russ is a past president and treasurer of CRLA and is currently serving a third term as chair of CLADEA. Russ serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Developmental Education and the Journal of College Reading and Learning. Russ has received many honors throughout his career, including the College Academic Support Programs (CASP) Lifetime Achievement Award, CRLA's Robert Griffin Award for Long and Outstanding Service, and CRLA's Special Recognition Award. He was named CLADEA Fellow--the field's most prestigious honor--in 2009. His books include Academic Transformation: The Road to College Success (with De Sellers and Carol W. Dochen, 2011, Pearson Education) and Teaching Study Strategies in Developmental Education: Readings on Theory, Research, and Best Practices (with Michele L. Simpson and Norman A. Stahl, 2012, Bedford St. Martin's).
